Aftermath producer Focus paying homage to Dilla, Pete Rock & Premier
As you may or may not know Focus is on his way to being what's called a super-producer.... only thing is you probably weren't fully aware of what he's done... and neither am I. But every time I see his name attached to something its NICE. Focus is one of the producers in the Dre/Aftermath stables.
Aftermath Records blog have very recently leaked 3 tracks which are all in homage to deserving candidates (and personal heroes of my own too)... DJ Premier, Pete Rock and the late great Dilla aka Jay Dee.
What's also interesting is that the man Focus can spit and hold his own alongside some very accomplished MC's.
1. "Homage to DJ Premier" featuring Stat Quo, Royce da 5′9 and Phonte
2. "Homage to Pete Rock" featuring Kurupt, Rapper Big Pooh and Sha Stimuli
3. "Homage to Dilla" featuring Slum Village, Frank Nitti and Illa J
Here is some footage of Focus in the studio, although I think after a while he takes the embellishment a little too far I do really like what he does here. It also shows that he aint one of those 'tell the engineer to...' producers and he aint just sittin on an mpc triggering loops neither..... this is what hip hop beat-making is about...
Bigup to Focus.
In future I will be paying homage to my favorite producers here by posting videos, tracks and interviews of interest to me.... i hope you are as interested.

Big up to Spin Dr for putting on another classic night...
Shout to the Dj's Marc Mac, Morgan Spacek, Rags, Lok, Kyza, Spin Dr, Harry Love and myself of course....

PULL UP / CATCH UP
I wanted to let this bubble in the analog world for a bit before really getting into the heavy online promo but now its time to blow the horn on the new night I am involved in as a resident DJ (alongside Jet Letts son of the legendary Don Letts).
PULL UP #1 : Friday Oct 24th 2008 @ The Paradise
Pull Up was launched last October at The Paradise in Kensal Rise. The first night also doubled as my birthday party and was a great success. My good friends Adriano & Tracks and myself were in agreement, west london is in a severe shortage of decent nights to go to especially on the weekend (shouts to YoYo for carrying the torch for all this time)... something had to be done. Jet Letts brought the grimey Dubstep & Old Skool Garage and I covered the Hip Hop/R&B/Disco/Funk/Soul/Rare Groove/Breaks and even Pop/House/Hip House/Electro/AfroBeat etc it didn't matter as long as the people were all on the same page and partied with us.
We were joined last minute by our savior and supa mc Kyza Smirnoff to host the night and keep everyone entertained which is exactly what happened. Our live P.A. performance from De Tropix broke up the night nicely and had the people sweatin even harder.
That night we jammed out the 650 capacity venue and made The Paradise as much money on the bar as they had at their Carnival party... and this was a regular weekend of the month!
PULL UP #2 : Boxing Day Dec 26th 2008 @ The Paradise
The 2nd event fell on Boxing Day (26th of December to all non-brits) and again was a smasher party... the turn-out was beautiful and despite all the turkey, booze, mince pies and chocolates everybody still had the energy to go come out, crazy and sing along to the tunez. Live P.A. that night was from our host m.c. Kyza Smirnoff who killed em with his track his Roots Manuva produced Judgement Day (which you can hear in the music player to the right>>>).
Even my old man made it out and danced to the music. Shouts to my old skool crew(s) & West London familia who turned out in full force!
PULL UP #3 : Feb 27th @ The Westbury
was on Friday 27th Feb and this time at The Westbury and was lady Tracks' birthday celebration... again we filled packed, shocked, macked & rocked the house! No P.A.'s this time just strictly floor filling party tunes all night from Jet Letts & yours truly.
Shouts to Amo the artsman for the sick conceptual flyer artwork too!!!!!! Keep your eyes peeled for Amo's range of T-shirts & accessories on the COLOURMAN clothing line who also produce clothing for Ramson Badbonez, Medication Records and are in collaboration with Ask Your Girl this year to produce some special gear ... big things for all names mentioned above in 2009
All in all things are moving in the right direction and London is on the come-up... don't listen to what they tell you about the economy , we all just becoming self-sufficient now... time to PULL UP our socks and keep steppin.
PULL UP #4 : March 13th @ The Cobden Club
Next Pull Up : March 13th 2009 @ The Cobden Club, Kensal Road. Closest tubes Westbourne Park/Ladbroke Grove/Kensal Green.
PLEASE ADD PULL UP AS YOUR FRIEND ON FACEBOOK
Here is a link to an assortment of photos from each of the different nights... more pix to come!!!

As the place to be for underground Hip-Hop from both sides of the pond The Doctor’s Orders has become the not to miss event of the month and for March we are bringing things back home with a UK Kings special featuring the very best talent our home shores have to offer in one room dedicated to Hip-Hop and one to Dubstep. With live performances and DJ sets from a wealth of home grown talent this is sure to be another Kingsland Road block.
Skinnyman is the most naturally gifted MC to have ever come out of the UK and will follow the likes of Frank & Dank, Sadat X, Louis Logic, Jehst & more onto The Doctor’s Orders stage. With incisive lyrics that are equally political as they are witty Skinnyman lays waste to any audience he comes into contact with and this will be no exception. The freestyle don has promised brand new unheard material ready to perform for the first time so this is sure to be another energetic live show the likes of which only the Mud Fam can put down.
As ever a highlight of room 1’s line up will be Spin Doctor’s set that as ever will explore all aspects of Hip-Hop mixed in the party fashion of which he is the master. Joining him on the decks is one of the UK’s most prolific and respected producers Harry Love. Having first met Spin Doctor when he was standing on a box to reach the decks at a West London house party Harry has perfected both DJ and studio styles that have seen him rock shows around the world and produce bangers for every UK MC worth mentioning. His club sets are an exciting mix of the new and old beats mixed to perfection that will leave the fun loving regulars begging for more!
Chris Read kicked off his career in Hip-Hop by promoting his Substance night in Birmingham for 12 years. Since moving to London he was one of the first DJs on the then brand new 1xtra and more recently has made waves with his incredible “The Diary” mixtapes. Tonight we celebrate the release of Vol 1.5 of this incredible series of mixes that trace Hip-Hop through a chronological mix of tracks that have fans including mixtape master DJ Yoda, The Herbaliser, Andy Smith & more. These mixes have to be heard to be believed so do not miss this chance of a sneak preview.
At The Doctor’s Orders we always aim to provide a suitable alternative to the Hip-Hop in room one with a selection of DJs and music that is sure to appeal to our regulars as well as bring new heads to London’s No.1 Hip-Hop party. Having had night dedicated to Reggae, Disco, original breaks & Jungle tonight we have a Dubstep dream team. The Foreign Beggars are adept at mastering all aspects of their trade. Having started producing and performing straight Hip-Hop they have successfully moved onto grime and are now making huge waves in Dubstep scene. DJ Nonames & MC Orifice Vulgatron will be treating us to one of these sets that have seen them establish such a following. They will be joined by the Patchwork Pirates who, although best know for their dedication to Hip-Hop and bass, will be digging deep into their Dubstep crates for this exclusive set. Holding the whole thing together upstairs is DJ Odin an unsung hero of the scene that will be taking no prisoners as he has ‘em swinging from the rafters! Having played at clubs and festivals up and down the country supporting the great and the good of the UK scene he is now readying himself to enter the 2010 DMC championships so battle DJs get ready!

ASHER ROTH FREESTYLE ON ROOTS MANUVA BEAT
SICK
For starters NO1 ELSE has this beat apart from Roots Manuva, DJ MK, Kyza and maybe 1 or 2 others.... Kyza already SHITTED on this beat from a height.... now add an exclusive Asher Roth freestyle over the entire length of beat and there you have a classic little moment.
And thats what the Extended Players are known for!
